If you want to get out of your hotel or resort and find your own slice of paradise, then any beach on this list should be on your Antigua itinerary. They are not obnoxious, but their groups can be large. How do you choose which beach to visit on an island that has one for every day of the year? Well, this post is going to make it all a lot easier for you to find the best beaches in Antigua.ĭuring our week on this beautiful Caribbean island - through visits with friends, chats with locals in the know, and our own two day road trip - we found some absolute gems the type of picture postcard Antigua beaches which we all dream about when planning our holiday. We also found a few which we didn’t think were worth a visit, so we haven’t included them here as we know how precious your time is on vacation. If you like to have a nice and quiet time, I would recommend avoiding weekends because many locals come here and have parties. Umbrella & 2 beach chairs were $10 (comparing to $20 at many other beaches), but you are expected to get something at the restaurant (at least some drinks). The food was pretty good (a bit slow) and their washroom was clean enough (not super clean and only one of 3 was working).ĥ. We went there 3 times during our stay, and 2 times out of 3 were not as clear as one day, but still beautiful.Ĥ. You may be able to say this for any beach, but it's hard to say how clear water can be depending on the weather and wind. Beautiful fine white sand (this is true to pretty much all Antigua beaches) and water was crystal clear when calm. Not as busy as other beaches as there is not much establishment around there.Ĥ. We could see some colourful fish and huge sea urchin there (don't expect a lot, but it was good enough for us).ģ. Snorkeling was great for not-so-good-swimmers because coral was only a few feet away from the beach. The boys really enjoyed the big inflatable playground ($15 USD - we were told or asked how long it was for, but the boys ended up playing for about 1.5 hrs).Ģ. This beach is not the one of the most "established" beaches in Antigua from the facility perspective, but had everything we wanted as a family.ġ.

The bus runs every 30 minutes or so and we did see the bus on our return back. I think the taxi trip is normally $8 each way. Since it was raining harder when we left and we didn't want to walk from the bus station back to the port, we took a taxi back. It was the best rum drink we had all week and was $7 each. We had a rum punch & rum which also had nutmeg, bitters and lime juice. The blow up play structure looked like lots of fun but no one used it while we were there. We did not go into the water as the surf was somewhat rough due to the weather. They are under a wooden structure so when it was raining it really didn't bother us much. When we arrived we rented two lounge chairs for $10. As it was a island bus residents from Antigua got in and out of the bus along the way.

My friend, 2 ladies from the cruise ship and I walked down to the bus station and paid $1.50 each to take bus 22 (which is a van) to Darkwood Beach. In theory, Antigua does not get much rain.
